Adapters are used in the FASTLOCK™ system to make connections between different sized pipes or to threaded components. Adapters are combined with a standard FASTLOCK™ coupling, elbow, or tee to make a reducing fitting or a press x thread fitting.
All FASTLOCK™ adapters feature a plain male end that is inserted to the proper depth into the mouth of a fitting. The fitting / adapter combination is then sealed with a press connection in the same manner as connecting a pipe. Just as in a pipe connection, the plain end of the adapter is held secure by the fitting's stainless steel ring and gasket. Adapters can be used in this manner to create a number of different fittings from similar component parts.
The benefit of FASTLOCK™ adapters is that a number of different fitting configurations can be assembled from just a few parts. With adapters, the same fittings you would typically use on a job can be modified to accommodate hard-to-find sizes and connection combinations. A threaded adapter can be combined with a coupling or elbow to make a press x threaded connection, or a tee to make a press run x threaded branch connection or press x threaded run x press branch connection. In this manner, you can easily meet demands faced in the field without having to carry a number of oddly sized fittings.
The photos to the right show some of the different configurations that can be created using adapters. In the first photo, a No. 247 male plain end x reduced press end adapter is combined with a No. 270 press x press coupling to create a press x reduced press coupling.
In the second photo, a No. 246 FIPT x reduced male plain end adapter is combined with a No. 90 press x press elbow to create an FIPT x reduced press elbow.
In the bottom photo, a No. 240 MIPT x male plain end adapter is combined with a 270 press x press coupling to create an MIPT x press coupling.
